BMF's ultrathin veneer material gets FDA nod

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given 510(k) clearance to Boston Micro Fabrication's (BMF) UltraThineer material, which is used to create a very thin dental veneer.

The new 3D-printed veneers use projection micro stereolithography (PµSL), a technology designed to create greater resolution, accuracy, and precision. The custom-manufactured zirconia veneers are three times thinner than traditional veneers and require little to no tooth preparation or grinding, according to BMF.

BMF has begun partnering with dental labs in the U.S. and expects to have the products commercially available in the second half of 2024.
