Fla. dentist loses license for assaulting patient

The Florida Department of Health has suspended the license of Michael Hammonds, DDS, who operates Elkcam Dental in Deltona, after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting an 85-year-old patient, according to a story in the Orlando Sentinel.

Dr. Hammonds was accused of false imprisonment, grand theft, battery on a person over 65 years old, and assault on a person over 65 years old.

The patient, Virginia Graham, told police the situation started when she became upset over an adjustment he made to her dentures.

State officials cited several issues in their emergency suspension order, including using illegal force or violence upon an elderly patient and failing to meet minimum standards of performance in diagnoses and treatment.
