Boston Univ. dental school receives $3M bequest

The Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine has received a bequest of more than $3 million from the estate of alumni and faculty member Oreste Zanni, DDS.

Dr. Zanni, a former clinical associate professor and clinic director in the department of periodontology, died in 2013 at age 66, according to the dental school.

"We are so very grateful for this generous bequest, which speaks to Dr. Zanni's love of the profession of dentistry, his affection for his alma mater, and the importance he placed on education," stated Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter, DMD, in a press release.

The bequest will establish an endowed full scholarship in Dr. Zanni's name for a resident in the advanced specialty education program in periodontics. A proposed new clinical facility will be named the Dr. Oreste Zanni Post-doctoral Periodontic Patient Treatment Center.

In 2008 and 2009, Dr. Zanni received the Educator Award from the American Academy of Periodontology.
