High school program seeks to recruit future dentists

Dental School Classroom

To address the shortage of dentists in New York, a new program is recruiting high schoolers and introducing them to different medical careers, including dentistry.

Step into Healthcare Academy, a program established by the Southern Tier Health Care System Inc., recruits high school-age students and immerses them into an eight-week program to introduce them to all facets of a career in healthcare. During the academy, students hear from a wide range of guest lecturers who hold various positions in healthcare. They also participate in hands-on activities and field trips.

The next Step into Healthcare Academy begins January 29, 2024, and runs through March 20, 2024, with sessions on Mondays and Friday. Interested students can apply on the academy’s website.
