Dr. Mayer Noskow, who operates Poughkeepsie Pediatric in Poughkeepsie, NY, was charged with simple assault with intent to do violence. As of June 18, he remained in jail after he was taken into custody under the Baker Act, which is a state law that permits an involuntary exam and hold of individuals experiencing mental health crises.
The dentist’s brother and his family were visiting Noskow's home in Boca Raton, FL, when an argument erupted. Noskow allegedly became enraged when his reported drug and self-prescribing of medication was discussed, according to the stories.
During the dispute, Noskow allegedly jumped up from a couch and threatened, “I’m going to shoot everyone in this house,” and purportedly charged at his brother. His brother reportedly took what he referred to as a defensive stance and shoulder-checked the pediatric dentist. This caused Noskow to fall to the floor, according to the stories.
The wife of Noskow’s brother, who was outside, allegedly heard the threats. Fearing for her family’s safety, Noskow’s sister-in-law reportedly took her child and fled the residence, according to the stories.
