A dentist who achieved celebrity status until he got lost in addiction was shot to death on March 3 by police in Australia after he allegedly assaulted two women at an apartment and threatened officers, according to multiple stories.

Dr. Steven Lin, author of The Dental Diet and host of The MouthBrain Connection podcast, was killed after he lunged at officers following the assault of two women he didn’t know at an apartment complex in Sydney, according to the stories.
Just before 11 a.m. on March 3, police responded to the complex after receiving reports that a man armed with a knife entered an apartment and attacked the women. After authorities unsuccessfully fired tasers at Lin, an officer shot him one time when Lin lunged at them, according to the stories.
His victims were taken to the hospital for injuries, including a broken nose.
In addition to his best-selling book, Lin, a dental nutritionist, was the founder and CEO of The Helix Group, and had amassed a following of 250,000 on Instagram until his personal life unraveled.
In 2024, Lin reportedly became addicted to methamphetamines after his marriage ended following revelations that Lin had fathered a child with another woman.
Days before he died, Lin faced charges that he choked and assaulted a sex worker and took $2,000 from her in March 2025, according to stories.
Lin contended that dental disease could be addressed using nutritional principles. He posited that crooked teeth and the need for orthodontia were based on diet, and called for changes to public health policy to prevent future generations from needing braces, according to his website.
