The 74-year-old man who allegedly tried to kill himself after shooting a dental assistant multiple times at her workplace in December 2025 has pleaded not guilty, according to a story published April 8 in Classic City News.
Carl Cark allegedly shot his partner, Sheila Mobley, 47, four times, including in her face, at McRae Family Dental in Athens, GA, and then turned the gun on himself when police caught up with him after he fled. Clark pleaded not guilty to criminal attempt to commit murder, according to the story.

Clark has been in jail since he was released from the hospital. Mobley sustained critical injuries.
Police characterized the shooting as an act of domestic violence.
On December 1 at about 6:30 a.m., an employee at McRae Family Dental in Athens, GA, called 911 after hearing gunshots and Mobley's screams. When police arrived, officers found Mobley sitting on the floor with a gunshot wound to her face. The practice was not open for business at the time of the shooting.
Since Mobley reportedly could barely speak, she used a notepad and pen to provide officers with information, including allegedly identifying Clark and providing Clark’s address and vehicle description.
Police searched for Clark, and his vehicle was eventually spotted. During a police traffic stop, Clark allegedly shot himself.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
