New $199 Ascend Starter aims to lower the cost of opening a practice

Henry Schein One has launched Ascend Starter, a package from Ascend by Dentrix aimed at dentists opening their own practices. It costs $199 a month for the first year for practices with fewer than 500 patients annually.

The company said new dentists start with nearly $300,000 in education debt. Further, new practices typically don’t break even for 12 to 18 months, and getting software running requires significant upfront investment and months of implementation.

Ascend Starter includes the full Ascend Pro platform, with clinical, scheduling, billing, and revenue cycle tools; a startup consultant; and monthly benchmarking and performance data.

Preconfigured settings and forms for new practices are coming soon. Online scheduling with Reserve with Google is built in, and add-ons include a website optimized for AI, Mango phones, and an AI receptionist. Practices can also get discounted dental-focused information technology support and access to DentalPlans.com’s free Provider Marketing Program.

“Dentists committed to starting and building their own practice shouldn’t be blocked by cost and complexity,” said Ali Hyatt, chief commercial officer at Henry Schein One.

The package joins Ascend Essentials, Pro, and Accelerate software packages and follows the Ascend by Dentrix brand refresh.
