Caries bacteria to self-destruct?
January 22, 2008 -- A research team at the University of Rochester Medical Centre has received a $3.6 million grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) to identify and rank the 2,000 genes that help S. mutans survive acidic build-up in the mouth. Altering these genes could reduce the bacteria's ability to survive, causing it to self destruct in its own acid.  Discuss
