Dr. Kapadia Husain Zoher, of Vintage Smile Family Dentistry in Houston, and his wife, Kapadia Amatullah, an engineer, pleaded guilty to theft. Zoher was sentenced to 18 days in jail, and Amatullah was sentenced to seven days in jail, according to news articles.

On June 23, the couple entered a Louis Vuitton store at the airport. Zoher purportedly stole a credit card holder valued at $600. Then the husband and wife moved on to a high-end cosmetics store, where Zoher reportedly slipped a $160 bottle of Dior Sauvage cologne while Amatullah allegedly acted as the lookout. Security video caught their shoplifting, according to the stories.

After stealing the luxury items, the 35-year-old dentist and his 30-year-old wife boarded their flight set for Mumbai, India, where they were arrested by police, according to the articles.

Prosecutors claimed that Zoher had a habit of overspending and that he shoplifted because he was greedy, according to the stories.

Singapore is known for its strict laws and severe punishments. The Southeast Asian city-country employs corporal punishment like caning and the death penalty for offenses like drug trafficking.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
