Multiple complaints lead to arrest of imposter dentist

A woman in Florida was arrested for allegedly running an illegal dental practice after several people reported to authorities that they experienced complications after she performed their dental work, according to multiple news stories.

Emely M. Martinez was arrested on August 20 and charged with scheme to defraud (less than $20,000) and practicing dentistry without an active license. Additionally, Martinez was charged with unlawful possession of personal identification of another and was cited as a habitual traffic offender. Furthermore, she was arrested for failure to appear and violation of probation warrants, according to the stories.

In June, police began investigating Martinez after former patients of hers alleged that they were left with complications after receiving dental work from her. Also, they claimed that she refused to give refunds or fix purportedly shoddy dental work, according to the stories.

During the two-month investigation, authorities learned that Martinez was advertising and running a business in a shopping center in Pinellas Park, FL, under the pretense of being a licensed dentist specializing in providing veneers. Martinez does not hold a valid dental license.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
