An 81-year-old man in Florida accused of assaulting a female friend who was incapacitated after undergoing oral surgery has been arrested, according to a story published on April 1 in Delray Beach Today.

Joel Freedman, of Delray Beach, FL, was charged with two counts of sexual battery on a helpless person over 18 years of age for allegedly assaulting the woman after driving her home from the dentist's office to her home at a senior living facility. His alleged victim had undergone oral surgery and was prescribed a sedative that caused retrograde amnesia, according to the story.

In November 2024, the woman had her teeth extracted, and her oral surgeon prescribed lorazepam. Freedman, who was a friend of the woman for a dozen years, drove her home from her surgery.

The woman claimed she had no memory of leaving the dentist or arriving home. The next day, she woke up with physical symptoms indicative of sexual assault. When Freedman was confronted, he allegedly admitted to touching the woman and performing oral sex on her but claimed that she was coherent and instructing his actions, according to the story.

Freedman reportedly begged the woman not to contact police about the incident, according to the story.

In March 2025, police interviewed Freedman at his home and eventually he was arrested.
