A woman was arrested on May 21 for allegedly operating an illegal, fully operational dental office inside a Florida home following an undercover police investigation, according to multiple recently published stories.
Maria Del Carmen Fontaine-Uliver, 33, who claims she is licensed to practice dentistry in Cuba but not the U.S., was charged with practicing dentistry without a license and possessing prescription drugs with the intent to sell or deliver. She was transported to the local jail, according to the story.
Police began investigating the operation after receiving an anonymous complaint that Rolando Quintana Garcia was reportedly practicing dentistry at a home in Miami. Authorities discovered that Garcia had a business, Smiles Everywhere, that was registered with the state. Garcia was listed as the registered agent, and Fontaine-Uliver was registered as the business manager.
Undercover police requested a veneers consultation with Garcia after finding an Instagram account associated with his business. Garcia provided two undercover officers with appointments on May 21.
When the officers arrived, they reportedly were instructed to wait in a dental office-type waiting room at the home. While there, they allegedly saw Fontaine-Uliver performing a dental crown procedure on an individual. Also, she reportedly told the person to let her know if she was experiencing pain, and she would give her an anesthetic, according to the stories.
Investigators detained Fontaine-Uliver. A search of the home revealed a full dental setup, as well as six vials of a local anesthetic.
Authorities learned that Fontaine-Uliver has an active dental radiographer license in Florida, which allows her to take dental x-rays while being supervised by a licensed dentist. However, she does not have a dental license in Florida, according to the stories.
It is unclear whether Garcia will be charged.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
