A mother and daughter were arrested on May 13 for allegedly stealing from the Florida dental practice where they worked for about a year, according to multiple recently published news stories.
Cynthia Joya, 53, and her daughter, Kaylyn Lopez, 24, are charged with felony counts of third-degree grand theft and organized scheme to defraud. They were being held in the local jail on individual bonds of $5,000 each.

Between March 2025 and March 2026, Joya and Lopez worked at Doral Dentistry Specialty Center and were allegedly stealing from the business. On March 16, 2026, both abruptly resigned from their positions and could no longer be reached, according to the stories.
An internal review of business records and financial transactions involving Lopez and Joya were evaluated, and it was discovered the pair allegedly misappropriated company funds. The mother and daughter reportedly would accept cash and Zelle payments from patients and keep the money for personal use. The amount of stolen money was not disclosed.
When police viewed a bank account belonging to the women, multiple Zelle transactions between them and patients were discovered, according to the stories.
A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
