A dental manager in Michigan was arraigned on 15 felonies for allegedly billing Medicaid for dental crowns that were never provided to patients, according to a press release dated September 24 from the Michigan Department of Attorney General.

Lina Abraham, 41, who worked at Dearborn Family Smiles in Dearborn, MI, was arraigned on September 23 on 14 counts of Medicaid fraud and one count of conducting a criminal enterprise, according to the press release.

If convicted of the criminal enterprise offense, Abraham faces up to 20 years in prison plus fines. If convicted of Medicaid fraud, she faces up to four years in prison for each count. Abraham is expected to be back in court in October.

Abraham, of Dearborn, is accused of repeatedly billing the state Medicaid program for dental crowns that were never provided to patients. She reportedly submitted the billing under Dearborn Family Smiles’ former name Artistic Dentistry, according to the press release.

Authorities do not suspect others associated with the dental clinic were involved in the alleged fraud scheme.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
