After a suspected DUI accident in Washington state, a woman tried to eat toothpaste from the tube to hide the smell of alcohol, prompting authorities to encourage others not to do the same and to see dentists regularly.
When officers arrived at the scene, the woman was standing in front of a vehicle and eating from a toothpaste tube, according to a post on Facebook from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office alongside a video of the incident.
“We’ve seen some interesting attempts to avoid a DUI, but this one might be a first,” according to the post.
Sheriff’s officers responded to a report of a vehicle accident in Yacolt, WA. The driver, who was not identified, allegedly weaved through traffic before hitting a power pole, knocking down wires. She continued to eat toothpaste once the officers arrived.
An officer tried to grab the toothpaste from the woman, saying, “Can I see your toothpaste, please? No, no more toothpaste.”
The woman eventually gave up the toothpaste. The officer asked why she was eating the toothpaste, and the woman said, “Because I have a bad mouth.”
“Oh, OK. That’s an interesting thing,” the officer responded.
The post concluded with, “We hate to break it to you … eating toothpaste won’t hide your DUI. Please don’t drink and drive. And please don’t eat toothpaste. (But DO see your friendly neighborhood dentist every six months for routine cleanings).”
