CAD/CAM Insider: How to replicate a natural smile with a digital workflow

Dear CAD/CAM Insider,

By combining a digital workflow and shell technique, CAD/CAM restorations can be created with the form and texture of natural teeth, resulting in an authentic-looking smile. Our Insider Exclusive shares more details from a recent case report published in the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry.

During the Chicago Dental Society 2023 Midwinter Meeting, which was held February 23-25, DrBicuspid Editor-in-Chief Theresa Pablos chatted with two industry leaders to discuss barriers to dental care and how dentistry can use technology to get more patients to the clinic and deliver care. In a separate discussion, panelists discussed how artificial intelligence will revolutionize the dental clinic experience.

Also, in our CAD/CAM Community, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may be associated with low bone mineral density in adults, according to a study published in the Journal of Craniomandibular and Sleep Practice. The findings may have implications for orthodontic treatment.

Another study about OSA published in the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation suggests that dental patients' craniofacial features may predict whether oral appliance therapy will reduce their sleep-disordered breathing.

Finally, low-dose cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) yields statistically similar performance to standard-dose CBCT imaging protocols for CAD/CAM-guided dental implant surgery. The research was published in the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants.
