Oscar Award-winning actor Tom Hanks took to social media on October 1 to warn fans that a dental plan promotional video that is currently circulating online which includes his photo is an unauthorized artificial intelligence (AI)-generated image.
On Instagram, Hanks wrote the following over the AI image, “"BEWARE!! There's a video out there promoting some dental plan with an AI version of me. I have nothing to do with it.”
Hanks previously has spoken out about the artistic and legal challenges AI and deepfakes pose, stating that there is a need to protect a celebrity’s likeness and voice as intellectual property.
