Childhood caries is the single most common chronic disease of young children, and although childhood caries is preventable, it is still considered to be the No. 1 chronic disease among children. This symposium is designed to identify obstacles to resolving this problem and consider some approaches to overcoming those obstacles. Topics to be addressed include establishing screening and treatment protocols at various venues; challenges and approaches to establishing a "continuity of care" plan; data collection; and designing outcomes studies that use the data to change policies.
