Dr. Cerina W. Fairfax, who was recently killed by her husband, former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, in a murder-suicide at their home, was remembered for her dedication to her patients, according to multiple news stories.
On April 16, Fairfax shot his 49-year-old wife at their family home in Annandale, a suburb of Washington, DC, before he took his own life. The couple’s two children were home at the time. The Fairfaxes had been going through a difficult divorce, and two weeks before the murder-suicide, Justin Fairfax had been ordered by a judge to vacate the marital home, according to stories.

Cerina Fairfax owned Dr. Fairfax & Associates Family Dentistry in Fairfax, VA, and was known for loving her work.
Fairfax earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University in 1999 and graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Dentistry in 2005 with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, according to her practice website.
She was a member of the ADA, the Virginia Dental Association, the Northern Virginia Dental Society, and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Society.
In her spare time, Fairfax loved to read, run trails with her dog, practice Bikram yoga, travel, and spend time with her family, according to the website.
After serving a full term as lieutenant governor, Justin Fairfax unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2021. He lost the race following a scandal in which two women accused him of sexual assault. Fairfax denied the allegations, but his reputation appeared to never recover.
