"Let's take a minute to talk about dental unit water lines. It's a myth that if you put clean water into your dental unit, that clean water is going to come out. In fact, eventually, due to that pesky little thing we know as biofilm, the water can get dirty, so testing your water on a regular basis is critical.
"The CDC defines safe clean drinking water as 500 CFUs or less. Failed tests could make your patients sick and require immediate action with patient notifications as part of that, so a steady schedule of regular maintenance will keep your water lines clean and your patients happy and healthy. Make sure you log your success as you go, because many states have specific requirements regarding this, and yours might be next.
