
A dentist in New York was arrested on May 13 for allegedly prescribing and overprescribing drugs to patients he was not actively providing dental treatment, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office in New York.
Dr. Lawrence Marks, 76, was arrested at his dental practice in New Hartford, NY, after a joint law enforcement probe. Marks, of New Hartford, was charged with two counts of criminal sale of a prescription for a controlled substance by a practitioner and one count of falsifying business records in the first degree, all of which are felonies, according to a press release posted on May 13 by the sheriff’s office.
Following his arrest, Marks was being held in the county jail pending his arraignment.
In January 2026, the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, began an investigation into Marks. In April, the bureau gathered information in their investigation and joined force with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the sheriff’s office to assist in furthering the case. After gathering information at his practice on May 13, Marks was arrested, according to the press release.
