Brighter Dental Care is relaunching its business with a plan that offers discounts for dentists in its network.
Brighter first came to market with a model similar to other discount dental clubs, offering 20% to 30% discounts to users for free and discounts of up to 60% off to users who purchased the $79 annual plan, according to the company.
Now they have revealed a new business model that charges users nothing to access 50% off discounts to all dentists in its network.
Under the previous model, the company had negotiated discounts with thousands of dentists in its nationwide network; with this new model, the company will start with 350 dentists in the Los Angeles area.
Instead of charging the consumer a subscription fee, Brighter's new approach is to charge the dentists to list their services on the site (the company did not disclose the fee).
Brighter negotiates prices for hundreds of procedures, from teeth cleaning and whitening to root canals and crowns. It creates a profile for dentists, including information about their medical training, distinctions, Yelp reviews, and a Brighter-produced video. Its software integrates with the dentists' practice management system so that patients can see their calendars and book services online.
Brighter plans to expand into other California markets later this year, then move into other parts of the U.S. next year.
