NCD tool tracks 2027 Medicare Advantage dental benefit cuts

NCD, a provider of dental, vision, and supplemental insurance, has launched a free online Medicare Advantage Dental Comparison Tool that compares dental benefits across 5,049 plans for 2027 against 2026 plan data.

Built on the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data, the tool covers 16 dental categories, from preventive care to orthodontia. It shows changes to annual maximums, deductibles, cost-sharing, frequency limits, and prior authorization requirements. The tool is designed for insurance agents, and no login is required.

NCD’s analysis found that 31% of 2026 Medicare Advantage members are in plans that reduced their annual dental maximum for 2027, typically by $500, or about 30%. Another 15% are in plans that raised coinsurance on at least one comprehensive service. In addition, 1,039 plans from 2026 do not appear in the 2027 filings.

The findings come amid broader efforts to help seniors evaluate gaps in their Medicare Advantage dental coverage during open enrollment.
