U.S. proposes free dental for National Guard, reservists

Bipartisan U.S. lawmakers recently introduced legislation that would provide U.S. National Guard members and reservists with free dental coverage.

On June 20, U.S. Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) introduced the “Dental Care for Our Troops Act.” It would waive premiums and copays in the Tricare dental program for members and reservists, according to a press release from Baldwin.

In addition to providing coverage, the bill, if adopted and signed into law by President Joe Biden, would ensure that all service members are prepared to deploy when needed. Currently, service members are responsible for being ready for deployment but must cover their own costs for dental insurance and procedures. Additionally, bipartisan companion legislation was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.
