"Hi. This is Dr. Darin O'Bryan with your CDOCS tip of the day.
"For this tip, I want to talk about platelet-rich fibrin. A lot of us have used it for grafting procedures and sinus lifts with our implantology. But I also use this on a daily basis for my extraction sites, especially for third molars.
"And that's what I want to talk about in this tip is I use the platelet-rich fibrin clots. And after I've extracted the third molars, I will place one of the fibrin clots in each of the extraction sites, especially the mandibular third molars, which are more prone to dry sockets.
"So after I've placed the platelet-rich fibrin in the extraction site, I'll go ahead and mainly try to get as much primary closure as humanly possible. What I have found over the years of utilizing this is the incidence of dry socket is drastically reduced. The healing is that much faster, and postoperative discomfort for the patient is greatly reduced as well.
"So I highly recommend utilizing your platelet-rich fibrin for any of the patients that tend to be a little slower on the healing side, for extractions, and especially utilization in all third-molar extractions to really reduce that postoperative complication rate and the incidences of your dry sockets.
"This has been your CDOCS tip of the day."
