OrthoAccel Technologies is partnering with AB Orthodontics to introduce the AcceleDent system to the Australian market.
AcceleDent uses vibrational force to increase the rate of alveolar bone turnover, according to OrthoAccel. The core technology was invented by Jeremy Mao, D.D.S., M.S.D., Ph.D., an orthodontist and bioengineer who pioneered the use of vibratory force in the craniofacial region and has published extensively on the topic.
The system was introduced in the U.K. last year. OrthoAccel received clearance from the Therapeutics Goods Administration, Australia's regulatory agency for drugs and medical devices, late last year to commercialize AcceleDent in Australia.
"Attending the 7th International Orthodontic Congress earlier this year in Sydney provided us a firsthand opportunity to experience the Australian orthodontic market and meet many of the key opinion leaders," said Mike Kaufman, vice president of marketing and business development at OrthoAccel. "AB Orthodontics has a long and successful track record introducing innovative orthodontic products and ... we believe we have found the ideal long-term partner for the Australian and New Zealand markets."
