National Kidney Foundation says fluoride may harm kidney disease patients

The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) has changed its stance on fluoridated water, saying in a position paper that, based on new evidence, exposure to fluoride could be potentially harmful to people with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

"Individuals with CKD should be notified of the potential risk of fluoride exposure by providing information on the NKF Web site," the foundation concludes in its revised position paper.

The ADA has long listed the NKF as one of the organizations that supports fluoridated water.
