Survey: Cost is No. 1 oral health stressor for U.S. adults

The cost of dental care is the top source of oral health-related stress, according to new survey findings from insurance benefits company Unum.

Unum conducted an online poll that included 1,229 working adults to determine what oral health stressors they faced. The cost of dental care was the most reported source of oral health-related stress, especially for women (46%) and adults ages 50 to 64 (45%).

Furthermore, 31% of adults reported avoiding the dentist because of cost. Alternatively, only 8% of respondents said they skipped regular dental visits because of anxiety or painful treatments.
