The aim of the study is to assess how dental professionals come into contact with potentially hazardous particulate matter and how to reduce this exposure. Five WVU teaching clinics and 29 private dental clinics in the state will participate in the research.
Researchers will measure the size and concentration of particulates during common dental procedures, characterize the chemical composition of particulates and gases, and recommend potential actions to protect dental practitioners and team members.
The study will be conducted in collaboration with researchers from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and is funded by the institute.
