A dental assistant in Florida was arrested on February 13 for allegedly sexually assaulting a sedated 18-year-old girl who he was prepping for third-molar extractions, according to news reports.

Edwin Alvis, 37, was charged with felony sexual battery/rape of a person over 18. He was caring for the teenager who was about to have her third molars removed at the Tampa Bay Institute of Oral Surgery and Dental Implants in Land O' Lakes on December 6.

After the girl was given nitrous oxide, Alvis allegedly lifted her shirt and sexually assaulted her. She was able to pull her shirt down, but he then allegedly pushed his hands down her pants and assaulted her, according to authorities.

Since she was awake during the assault, the teenage girl was able to report the incident quickly.

Alvis denied the allegations during a January 2 interview with authorities. He agreed to take a DNA test to prove his innocence and allegedly told investigators that his DNA would not be found on the victim.

Results received on February 12 showed that the DNA found on the victim matched with Alvis, according to reports.
