Desktop Health has released Flexcera, a technology platform for creating 3D-printed dental prosthetics.
Flexcera comes in two versions: Flexcera Smile for 3D fabrication of denture teeth and Flexcera Base for 3D fabrication of denture bases/gums. Flexcera Smile is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) class I medical device, while Flexcera Base has received FDA 510(k) clearance as a class II medical device.
Flexcera is the first major product released by Desktop Health, a subsidiary of 3D printing firm Desktop Metal. Developed using long-chain chemistry, the Flexcera line comes in a range of tooth colors and features ceramiclike strength, according to the vendor. New printed teeth can be ready for patients in less than 24 hours, the company said.
Both Flexcera Smile and Flexcera Base were formulated exclusively for use with EnvisionTec 3D printers, Desktop Health noted. Desktop Metal acquired EnvisionTec in early 2021.
