What's the difference between a dental service organization (DSO) and a dental partnership organization (DPO)? Dr. Tom Giacobbi is tackling that question in this week's installment of Just A Minute, Doc.

"People often ask, 'What's the difference between a DSO and a DPO? The DSO owns the practice and employs the dentist. The DPO provides support, but the dentist maintains ownership.

"One of the benefits of a DSO is that they can reduce the administrative burden. However, you're trading that for less clinical autonomy. In a DPO, you're getting economies of scale for purchasing supplies and other services and still preserving the independence of your practice.

"I think you need to consider your priorities when you're choosing to be part of a DSO or a DPO, each has its own pluses and minuses.
