Smile Train launches bid for smile photo world record

Group Smiles

New York-based nonprofit Smile Train has launched an initiative to achieve a Guinness World Record for the largest online photo album of mouths.

Anyone age 13 years or older can take part by adding a photo of their smile on a dedicated website, the organization said. So far, 32 smiles have been added to the album. The goal is to feature 20,000 images.

Smile Train is the world’s largest cleft-focused organization with a sustainable and local model of supporting surgery and other forms of care. Every three minutes, a baby is born with a cleft lip or palate, a condition that can make eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking a struggle, according to the organization.

"At Smile Train, we believe that no matter who you are or how you smile, your unique face deserves to be seen and celebrated," Smile Train said.

Dentsply Sirona will donate $20,000 to the organization when the Guinness World Record is achieved on World Smile Day on October 5, Smile Train added.
