The Delta Dental Institute has praised the U.S. House of Representatives passage of the Oral Health Literacy and Awareness Act of 2021.

The bill would authorize a public education campaign across all relevant programs of the Health Resources and Services Administration to increase oral health literacy and awareness.

"We are pleased to see the House make this bipartisan commitment to oral health and oral health literacy," said Executive Director Vivian Vasallo in a statement. "The Delta Dental Institute has long advocated for both greater emphasis on oral health literacy and for the federal government to dedicate the resources necessary to advance Americans' oral and overall health. The House's vote in favor of the Act is an important first step for both, and the Delta Dental Institute will continue to advocate for progress in these critical areas."

The bill was received in the Senate on December 9 and referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. The institute said it encourages the Senate to promptly take up the legislation.
