A Texas pediatric dentist was arrested on February 16 for allegedly performing surgery on a child while intoxicated, according to multiple news stories published on February 17.

Dr. Kelly Buck, 36, of Pediatric Dentistry of Sherman in Sherman, TX, was charged with a felony count of performing surgery while intoxicated. Buck, who has been a licensed dentist since 2016 and appears to have no disciplinary actions filed against her, was booked into the county jail and released after posting a $10,000 bond.

On February 16 at about noon, police went to the practice after receiving a call that a dentist employed there was showing signs of being intoxicated. When officers arrived, Buck allegedly showed signs of intoxication, according to the stories.

Buck was taken into police custody after she failed a field sobriety test. Police did not say whether she was allegedly taking drugs or alcohol, according to the stories.

Police said they could not recall a similar case in the past. Buck faces up to two years in prison if convicted.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
