A dentist in Georgia had his license suspended after allegedly leaving several patients with serious dental-related complications, including one who has an implant-related infection and another who may lose her front teeth, according to multiple news stories.
Deeming the dentist a threat to public safety, the Georgia Board of Dentistry ordered the emergency license suspension of Dr. Justin Scott, owner of Pure Dental Health in Atlanta. The state board received complaints from multiple patients accusing Scott, 44, of unprofessionalism and providing treatment below the standard of care.
Scott’s license was suspended without a dental board hearing. He can request a hearing to get his dental license back.
One patient claims she experienced severe root resorption on her upper and lower teeth following a botched procedure performed by Scott. This patient claims she is in jeopardy of losing her front teeth, according to the stories.
Another patient alleges she has bone necrosis after the implants that Scott placed failed. A third patient claims she requires multiple corrections due to poor orthodontic treatment.
Additionally, the dental board accuses Scott of engaging in misleading billing and treatment planning. He reportedly provided one patient with a plan for maxillary and mandibular treatment for a total cost of $20,000. After the patient signed the plan and paid the total amount, the individual was reportedly told that the plan was not intended to include the lower arch, and both the invoice and plan were erroneous, according to the stories.
Furthermore, a state inspection conducted in September revealed extensive failures of sanitary practice and infection control, including expired supplies, improper instrument storage, and an ineffective eye wash station.
As of the writing of this story, Scott’s practice was closed.
