A dentist in Canada reportedly killed his sons, ages 7 and 12, at his home, set fire to his dental practice, and then killed himself in a vehicle blaze on June 29, according to multiple news stories.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Lami, 40, who had a tumultuous relationship with his former wife and the mother of the two boys, allegedly sent his ex an email threatening to kill everyone around her two years earlier, according to the articles.
Police believe Al-Lami murdered his sons at his home in Ottawa. Al-Lami was found dead in a vehicle blaze in Kemptville, which is approximately 40 miles from Ottawa, according to a press release from the Ottawa Police Service.
Additionally, police linked the dentist to a fire at his dental practice, Road 2 Dentistry, in Iroquois, Ontario. Al-Lami allegedly used cans of gasoline to set the practice ablaze, according to a story published in CBC News. No one was injured in the fire, but the practice was destroyed.
At the scene of his sons’ murders, Al-Lami left a multipage handwritten note in which he condemned his ex-spouse, the criminal justice system, and family court systems for wronging him, according to CBC News.
Police are continuing to investigate the murder-suicide and will release more information once it becomes available.
Past problems
At the time of the incidents, Al-Lami was serving a 12-month term of probation for threatening in 2024 to cause bodily harm to his former wife. The couple divorced in 2022, according to CBC News.
According to the publication, the dentist reportedly sent his ex-wife an email stating: “I will kill everyone around you and your pimp … in a very wild and savage way. I won’t kill you. I will leave you alone, disabled in a wheelchair that you can’t move, even to visit your loved ones’ graves,” the letter said in part, per the outlet. “I’ll make you an example of the unfair justice system. I will make you a worldwide story,” Al-Lami wrote.
“When you do something wrong to me, you pay for it. You pay for it either through the child support or whatever I feel suitable to respond to your actions until I end it the way I like for you and [your] pig,” Al-Lami wrote, referring to his ex-wife’s current partner.
