The state dental board in Ohio placed the license of a dentist on probation after she admitted to treating pediatric patients while under the influence of alcohol, according to a recently signed consent order.

The dental license of Dr. Amber Wright, who operates Smile Wright, a dental practice that specializes in care for children in Xenia, OH, will be on probation for a minimum of five years. Also, Wright must complete 15 hours of substance use disorder education and 10 hours of stress management education, according to the terms of her consent order.

In December 2025, Wright sought treatment for alcohol use disorder at a local facility. On January 8, 2026, she voluntarily enrolled in a one-month in-patient treatment program in Indiana, which she successfully completed, according to the order.

On January 16, 2026, Wright communicated to the Ohio State Dental Board that, at times, she used alcohol before work and during lunch, according to the order.

In March 2026, Wright was cleared by a health professional to return to work. She is permitted to continue working as long as she adheres to the consent order.

Under the terms of the order, Wright must submit to random alcohol and drug testing. Furthermore, she is ordered to attend at least one meeting per week at a support group or 12-step program. If Wright breaches any conditions of the agreement, her dental license will be automatically suspended.

Since 2007, Wright has been a dentist at Smile Wright, according to the practice website.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
