Dr. Tom Giacobbi is back with another in his series of Just A Minute, Doc videos. This time, Giacobbi discusses why he believes dentists and dental team members should understand what artificial intelligence (AI) can do for their practice, even if they don't believe it's the right fit for them.

"Let's take a minute today to talk about AI and dentistry.
"The biggest splash so far with AI and dentistry has been systems that can read our x-rays, and whether or not you believe this is for you, I encourage you to go out and get a demo from one of these companies.
"Quiz yourself by looking at the x-ray set first, then let the AI look at it and see where you agree and disagree. Furthermore, if you have a chance, bring a patient into the demo and let them see it, get feedback from them on how impressed or unimpressed they are with what they're seeing, I think you'll be surprised.
"The other thing I'd like to point out, these AI systems are the very same systems that insurance companies are using to automate claim processing. Wouldn't it be nice to know what the insurance company is seeing before you submit the claim?
"I think you're going to find that AI, as we move forward, is going to help with scheduling patients, capturing clinical notes, posting procedures, and so much more.
"Don't get left behind. Start to get introduced to where AI is fitting into dentistry, and you'll be glad you did. Now, let's get back to work."
