Podcast: 5 minutes with Ben Nemtin on avoiding burnout in 2024

As part of the "Future of Dentistry" podcast series, powered by Keystone Industries, we spent five minutes at the recent Dental Trade Alliance annual meeting with Ben Nemtin, who is one of the co-founders of The Buried Life, a movement he describes as “four regular guys on a mission to complete a list of ‘100 things to do before you die’ and to help and encourage others to go after their own lists.”

This movement has turned into a decade-long effort to not only check the 100 things off their list but also to help others complete the tasks they have long wanted to finish. As they write about themselves, “Everywhere they go, they ask the question: ‘What do you want to do before you die?’

Nemtin spent five minutes with me before serving as the meeting’s keynote speaker, and in those five minutes, we discussed how a bout with depression and anxiety started him on the journey that would eventually be The Buried Life. We also discussed his advice for anyone battling those illnesses and the mindset that dental professionals can adopt to break those chains in 2024 and beyond.

“We live this life that we think we should live. We live this life that other people want for us, but a lot of times, we don’t live the life that’s true to us,” Nemtin said. “I believe that we have a responsibility to do those things that make us feel more like ourselves, because we all have unique abilities.”
