Kodak 3D system certified for use with SureSmile

The Kodak 9500 cone-beam 3D system is now certified by OraMetrix for use with its SureSmile technology, which transforms cone-beam scans of the mouth and teeth into 3D computer models for orthodontic planning and treatment, the companies announced.

This new integration enables dental professionals to submit 3D scans acquired by the Kodak 9500 3D system to SureSmile for the manufacture of customized wires for patients.

The SureSmile system is a digital therapeutic solution for orthodontics that replaces conventional manual treatment. Orthodontists and other dental professionals can take a 3D scan of the patient's mouth, face, and jaw, and use this data in the SureSmile system for treatment through virtual diagnostic simulations, instant quality grading tools, prescriptive planning capabilities and robotic arch-wire customization.

The Kodak 9500 3D system enables practitioners to produce 3D images -- ranging from a single jaw to full craniofacial images -- at the lowest possible dose, according to the companies. The system is suited for orthodontists and dental specialists, including oral and maxillofacial surgeons (e.g., implantology, tooth extractions, and surgical planning), as well as dental imaging centers, diagnostic imaging centers, and hospital radiology departments.
