Digital community banner ads
Digital community banner ads are eye-catching teaser graphics with a simple message or tag-line. They may be animated and may utilize Flash. Please refer to the Ad Specifications Overview document for animation and Flash requirements.

We offer three Ad Layout options to choose from:
  • Layout #1 - includes a Position 8 ad with an optional inline ad position.
  • Layout #2 - includes a Position 10a, Position 10b, Position 10c with an optional inline ad position. You may use one, two, or all three of the Position 10 banners. Unused Position 10 banners will not appear in the community.
  • Layout #3 - includes a Position 9 with an optional inline ad position.

Community inline ads
The Community Inline (CIL) ad is an optional ad position that is intermixed with regular news content. The CIL is a text-based ad with an optional 70x70 (10kb) non-animated graphic. A mixed graphic/text CIL (as shown in the examples below) consists of a 70x70 static gif, jpg, or png graphic, along with up to 250 characters of text. CIL ads containing text only may contain up to 350 characters. To distinguish the inline ad from regular content, a soft "Advertisement" tag is placed above it.

Digital community mobile inline ads
The digital community mobile inline ad is optional, and it is intermixed with regular news content. It is viewable only from mobile devices such as iPad or BlackBerry. It should be more informational and text-based, with minimal or no graphics. For more details, click on the Mobile Inline specification page.

Suggestions for successful inline ads
Consider your intent in placing an inline ad and the appearance of the regular news articles surrounding it. The inline ad is formatted in the same style as other DrBicuspid articles.

Ad specifications overview
The community sponsorship utilizes several varying banner ads. Click here to view the deliverable requirements for each banner. At minimum, you must supply non-Flash banners; animated or static GIFs, or JPEGs are acceptable formats. Flash banners are optional.

Maximum file size:
The maximum aggregate file size limit for all community banners is 140kb. As the exclusive sponsor of your community, you are entitled to allocate the file size wherever you see fit within your community. For example, you may allocate a large portion of your file size "budget" to the P10a position, while using simple branding banners for the other banner positions.

Keep in mind that the 140kb maximum refers to the maximum amount of ads to be displayed at one time. If you had a single banner in your community, you could use up to 140kb for a flash version and also 140kb for an alternate gif/jpg/png file. You are able to use 140kb for each of those banners because only one will display at any time.

Community Insider (e-mail broadcasts):
Each community offers an Insider mailing -- published approximately every 6-8 weeks. All subscriptions are published in an HTML format, which is also made available online to those subscribers who cannot view HTML-formatted e-mail. Flash is not supported in e-mail subscriptions.

Community Insider sponsorship provides two options: Insider Option #1 layout includes Position 9 only. Insider Option #2 layout includes Position 8 only.

Editorial Insider Newsletter (e-mail broadcasts):
All subscriptions are published in an HTML format, which is also made available online to those subscribers who cannot view HTML-formatted e-mail. Flash is not supported in e-mail subscriptions.

Editorial Insider Newsletter sponsorship provides two options of varying positions: Option #1 layout includes Position 8 only. Option #2 layout includes Position 9/Leaderboard.
