Henry Schein Q2 dental sales fall 5%

Henry Schein reported a 5.1% decline in Dental Group sales for the second quarter of 2009 (end-June 27). Dental Group sales were $626 million, down from $660 million in the same quarter a year ago.

The 3.6% decline in local currencies included 1.3% growth in dental consumable merchandise sales and a 17.5% decline in dental equipment sales and service revenues, the company said.

"Dental consumable merchandise sales figures suggest stabilization in the market, and dentists continue to be cautious when committing to purchasing equipment," said Stanley Bergman, chairman and CEO, in a press release.

Net sales for the entire company were $1.61 billion, down 1.8% from $1.64 billion for the second quarter of 2008. Companywide income from continuing operations for the quarter was $73.5 million, an increase of 13.1% compared to the same period last year.
