Pride Institute takes tech awards to ADA

The second annual Pride Institute Best of Class Technology Award winners will be honored at the upcoming ADA Technology Expo, to be held during the ADA annual session in Orlando, FL, October 9-12, 2010.

The awards were launched in 2009 and showcased during a Tech Expo at the 2009 Greater New York Dental Meeting. The goal of the awards is to provide an unbiased, nonprofit assessment of available technologies in the dental space, according to Lou Shuman, D.M.D., president of the Pride Institute.

"We deeply felt a gap in the area of technology education and integration," Dr. Shuman said in a press release. "We feel the technology awards and fair were an ideal model to fill that gap."

This year's winners were chosen by a panel of technology experts. In addition to Dr. Shuman, the panel comprised John Flucke, D.D.S., technology writer and lecturer; Paul Child Jr., D.M.D., CEO of Clinician's Report; Titus Scheleyer, D.M.D., Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine; Marty Jablow, D.M.D., technology writer and lecturer; Parag Kachalia, D.D.S., University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry; and Larry Emmott, D.D.S., writer, speaker, and dental marketing consultant.

"I feel very fortunate that a panel of this magnitude has agreed to contribute to the selection process," said Dr. Shuman.

The chosen technologies were divided into four categories: foundational, diagnostic, therapeutic, and emerging. The winners were selected after a live debate among the experts, followed by a majority vote.

"When I put this together, there wasn't a set number of awards or types of products in each category," Dr. Shuman said. "I threw all those rules out. I was interested in creating a distinguished group of technologies."

This year's "Best of Class" winners are:

Foundational

Diagnostic

Therapeutic

Emerging
