Fla. dental equipment repair company signs 100th franchise

A Florida company that specializes in repairing dental equipment, Dental Fix Rx, has signed its 100th franchise.

Dental Fix Rx, based in Davie, now has more than 70 service territories in the U.S. and Canada, according to a sunsentinel.com story.

The franchisees are mobile operators that go to dentists' office to fix broken handpieces, compressors, and other medical equipment. They drive vans equipped with tools and do repairs onsite, eliminating the need for dentists to send parts to repair centers.

While its core customers are dentists, Dental Fix Rx also takes calls from tattoo shops, pharmaceutical companies, and veterinarians.

Franchisees charge about $175 per hour and respond to about five service calls a day, and the company projects sales this year will reach $16 million.

The company hopes to add at least 50 more territories in 2014 through aggressive marketing, but expects a third of that will come from current owners' referrals.

It takes about $70,000 to start a franchise, and franchisees begin by paying a $350 a week to the company. The weekly fee increases in the third year of business. In return, the franchisees receive technical and scheduling support.
