It all starts with the team

Even the greatest dentist in the world still needs the support of a good team to operate the practice. A well-functioning team can make your schedule flow smoothly and your workday more enjoyable. Remember -- the stronger your team, the more successful your practice.

Educate your team. Remember that many patients will seek a second opinion about your recommended treatment -- before they even leave the office. That means you want everyone to be up-to-date and knowledgeable about the services your practice provides. Morning meetings provide an excellent opportunity to educate team members about new services, which are typically what your patients will ask your staff about.

Don't tear down -- build up! Most people want to be appreciated. This can be as simple as saying "thank you" or "nice job" after team members have completed a task or somehow gone above and beyond in their responsibilities. Compliment staff members when you see them handle a difficult situation, praise them when their communication skills help a patient understand treatment, and thank them for helping the practice succeed.
