A dentist in Maryland accused of assaulting a woman multiple times over a year has had his trial delayed to March due to new evidence, according to a story published on January 30 in the Frederick News-Post.

The trial of Dr. Brian Motz, 46, of Monocacy Valley Dental in Frederick, MD, has been postponed to March 12 because the prosecution received new police body camera footage and Motz's counsel needed time to review it. Motz, who is charged with eight counts of assault involving a woman he had a relationship with between September 2024 and October 2025, was supposed to stand trial on January 29.

Additionally, the state revoked a guilty plea deal it had offered Motz, who remains in private home detention for potentially violating probation from a past conviction. In April, Motz was sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years of probation after he pleaded guilty to misusing a phone to repeatedly call his ex-fiancée, according to the story.

While he is detained at home, Motz is tracked by GPS. The dentist can only leave his home for work, legal appointments, and meetings with his probation officer, according to the story.

The woman accused Motz of physical abuse, including choking, punching, and kicking her, as well as harassment. In December, the court granted a one-year final protective order for domestic violence against Motz on the woman’s behalf. Motz was arrested that same month.

In January, Motz filed an application for a statement of charges against the woman, accusing her of stealing about $7,000 from his business account. His alleged victim faced charges of forgery, theft scheme, and theft, but, for the time being, the state has declined to prosecute, according to the story.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
