A dentist in Maryland accused of assaulting a woman multiple times over a year was sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty on May 15, according to a story recently published in the Frederick News-Post.
Dr. Brian Motz, 46, owner of Monocacy Valley Dental in Frederick, MD, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree assault and admitted to violating the conditions of his probation.
He was sentenced to 10 years for each second-degree assault count, with all but 18 months of his time suspended. For the probation violation, Motz was sentenced to two years and nine months in jail, with all but 18 months suspended. These sentences will run consecutively, according to the story.
Furthermore, Motz was sentenced to five years of probation and must complete a domestic violence prevention program.
In January, the state revoked a guilty plea deal it had offered Motz, who was in private home detention for potentially violating his probation from a past conviction. In April, Motz was sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years of probation after he pleaded guilty to misusing a phone to repeatedly call his ex-fiancée.
The woman accused Motz of physical abuse, including choking, punching, and kicking her, as well as harassment. In December, the court granted a one-year final protective order for domestic violence against Motz on the woman’s behalf. Motz was arrested that same month.
In April 2025, Motz pleaded guilty to misusing a phone to call his ex-fiancée and was serving a supervised probation sentence for that.
In November, Motz faced second-degree assault charges after another woman he was in a relationship with accused him of multiple instances of physical abuse, including choking.
