Clinicians are criticizing the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) for its updated guidance on the treatment of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). Our top story of the week shares why.
The criticism comes in response to MRONJ guidance released by the AAOMS earlier this year. Some say the new list of criteria does not include all clinical signs linked to MRONJ, including that the AAOMS only recommends imaging "when indispensable."
Dentistry has big night in U.S. elections
Voters largely supported many dental initiatives and dentists up for vote in Tuesday's elections. The big win of the night for organized dentistry was in Massachusetts, where voters overwhelmingly supported a measure to reform dental insurance medical loss ratios. Both the ADA and the American Association of Dental Support Organizations weighed in on the win.
Other issues up for vote included community water fluoridation in Boothbay, ME, marijuana legalization in several states, and a ban on flavored tobacco in California. Also, all of the dentists looking to keep their seats in the U.S. House of Representatives were reelected.
